Razer Kiyo Pro Review
Why I bought it
In October 2022 I wanted a simple, plug‑and‑play camera I could place on top of my monitor. My setup is a closed MacBook, Dell G3223Q display, keyboard, and Magic Trackpad. The Kiyo Pro fit that brief and worked fine day‑to‑day.
Setup and use
Mounting is straightforward and macOS recognition is instant. For typical meetings it was convenient and required no extra software.
Image quality
Overall quality is good for a webcam, with better‑than‑average low‑light performance. Skin tones and exposure are acceptable out of the box, and it holds up well in dim rooms compared to many laptop cameras.
The issue: autofocus behavior
The autofocus tends to hunt/pump, leading to frequent focus breathing and visible oscillation between slightly soft and sharp focus. In Teams calls this was distracting for colleagues and for me. This behavior is the main reason I eventually switched to using my iPhone as a webcam.
Verdict
Convenient, capable, and easy to live with, but the AF hunting undermines the experience in professional calls. I’d still rate it 4/5 given the strengths in low light and overall convenience, especially if AF behavior doesn’t bother you or you can lock focus.
Recommendation
If you want a tidy, monitor‑mounted webcam with good low‑light results, the Kiyo Pro is a solid pick. If smooth, stable focus is critical, consider an iPhone webcam setup or a camera that allows reliable AF lock. (Affiliate link TBD.)
